Great Lengths Aftercare

Guidelines for Care of Great Lengths Hair Extensions

Extensions behave as your own natural hair. Natural hair loss is normal and to be expected. Average loss of your own hair is approximately 50 – 150 hairs per day. A full head of extensions will cover approximately a third of your natural hair and therefore it is normal that approximately 50 hairs per day remain trapped in the extensions. Allow for a percentage of extension loss during the course of 3 – 4 months. The life of your extensions will be greatly diminished without regular salon check-ups and home maintenance.

The following guidelines must be observed to extend the life span of your bonds, failure to comply could cause the bonds to deteriorate or lead to breakdown.

Hair Colouring / Perms

Any oxidation products services should be carried out 2-4 days prior to extension service. It would also be helpful if the client used Anti-Tap Water at home before extensions, to stabilise the hair and eliminate any alkaline residue.

Aftercare Procedures

1. Do not shampoo your hair for 48-hours after your extensions have been applied, as this allows the bonds to set

2. Your hair must be shampooed at least once a week with the Great Lengths Products, as these have been designed to prolong the life and appearance of your hair extensions

3. Condition and detangle mid-lengths to the ends of the hair only

4. Always use Great Lengths Anti-Tap Water as a final rinse as instructed

5. Always dry your hair thoroughly, starting with the bond, as it is at its most vulnerable when wet

6. Do not towel dry the hair with a scrubbing motion. Instead, use a blotting motion and wrap the hair in a towel to remove the moisture

7. When blow-drying, mild heat should be used and cold air must be applied once hair is totally dry. Your extensions hair may take longer to dry. The Great Lengths round brush can be used for blow-drying

8. Great Lengths styling products should only be applied to the lengths and ends of your hair, and not the bond

9. Straighteners and heated tools can be used, however they must be kept away from the bonds

10. The Great Lengths Brush is the most suitable soft bristle brush to use whilst caring for your extensions

11. With small sections of hair, gently brush from the bonds to the ends of your hair

12. On a regular basis, separate the bonds with your fingers to prevent matting. Do not comb between the scalp and the bond. Brush gently over all your extensions

13. We recommend that you tie your hair in a loose ponytail to prevent tangling while sleeping and participating in sports activities

14. Whilst swimming is possible, in some cases, due to the chemicals used in the water you may experience some breakage of the bonds and colour alteration could also occur, it is therefore necessary to rinse your hair and dry the root as soon as possible to extend the life of your bond

15. Always use Great Lengths Anti-Tap Water after swimming to prevent bond breakdown

16. Any activity carried out regularly such as Aerobics / Gymnastics / Steam Room / Sauna etc., may result in the life span of the bonds being affected due to the bond being in a constant damp environment, however precautions previously suggested could remedy the problem

17. Use Great Lengths products at all times. The following products are available from your salon:
